Commercial broadcasters invest more in Aussie content
In 2010-11, Free TV broadcasters invested a record $1.23 billion on Australian TV content including drama, children’s programs, news and current affairs, sport and documentaries.
In 2010, Australian programming accounted for 65 per cent of all content aired on commercial networks - well in excess of the 55 per cent requirement. More than 25,650 hours of Australian programming was broadcast on the main channels, including more than 716 hours of first-run drama and documentaries.
Commercial broadcasters are also the major underwriters of Australian production. Networks employ 15,000 people directly and indirectly.
