Retune Your TV:  An Important Message for TV Viewers

•  Missing a TV channel? You may need to retune your TV
•  Some channels are changing frequency which means you will need to retune your TV, on a specific date
•  The dates for retune vary and your retune date will depend on where you live
•  Retuning is easy – just follow some simple instructions

Now that Australia has completed the switch to digital-only television, some channels are changing their frequency.

This means that, on a specific date, you will need to retune your television, set-top-box or digital TV recorder to ensure you continue to receive all your free-to-air TV channels and services.

When do I need to Retune?
You’ll need to retune your TV on a specific date, not before. When you need to retune depends on where you live.

The Australian Government has a website where you can enter your street address, suburb and postcode to find out your retune date. You can even sign up for an SMS or email reminder that will remind you when to retune. Click here to find out when your area is retuning

How do I Retune?
Once you know the date that retune is happening in your area, all you need to do is retune your TV on that date.

On the date of retune (or shortly after), simply follow the steps below:

1.  For most systems, press the MENU or SETUP button on your Remote Control.
2. Look for words like “Channels" or “Auto-tuning“ or “Retune” or “Rescan“ and press SELECT.
3. Follow any further prompts to scan or retune your equipment. Note, a scanning bar may appear whilst retuning is taking place.

Note, some equipment will automatically detect changes to the TV channels and retune automatically.

If you are experiencing difficulties, refer to your product’s manual. Lost your product manual? Try searching for your particular model’s instruction guide/manual online.

Once the scan has finished, you should receive all of the digital TV channels that are available in your area. If you have a standard definition TV or equipment you will be able to receive all free-to-air channels except high-definition channels such as 7MATE, GEM and ONE. If you have a high definition TV or equipment you will be able to enjoy the full suite of free-to-air television services. To find out what channels are available in your area, visit
Freeview’s Channel Finder.

If you aren’t receiving some channels that you were receiving before the retune, repeat steps 1 to 3 above. If you are still experiencing difficulties, call the Government’s Retune Helpline on 1800 20 10 13.

What if I do nothing?
If you do not retune your television, set-top-box or digital TV recorder on or shortly after your area’s retune date, you may lose access to some of the channels you currently receive. If you miss the retune date in your area, don’t worry, just retune your equipment using the instructions above.
