Implementing the recommendations of the Digital Platforms Inquiry
In this submission, Free TV sets out an implementation plan for the recommendations made by the ACCC in its digital platforms inquiry final report. We consider that reform of media regulations is long overdue, particularly in areas such as Australian content quotas and advertising restrictions that penalise commercial Free TV broadcasters. Equally, the imbalance in the negotiating position between digital platforms and media businesses needs to be addressed through a Code of Conduct.
Free TV submits to the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science that the ethics principles should apply to the surfacing of content through the digital platforms and content aggregators such as Google Search, Google News, Facebook Newsfeed.
